Fright Rags Launches Stephen King Collection T-Shirt Line

If there are any horror authors out there who deserve their own t-shirt lines, we'd say Stephen King would be at or near the top of the list, and obviously Fright Rags agrees as they've just launched the"King Collection"line of tees.

With artwork fromPet Sematary, Night Shift, The Dark Half, andSkeleton Crew, the King Collection became available this week from theFright Rags website. Per Ben at Fright Rags, this new line will pay homage to the cover art that inspired me and countless others growing up, and we have worked closely with the original artists to recreate their vision in every detail.

Wonder how the collection came about? Ben's blog post"Judging a Book by Its Cover", which he posted last May, explains. Here's an excerpt, and below that you'll find a peek at the t-shirts themselves:

I spent probably as much time at the library when I was a kid as I spent at the video store. The main reason was, of course, to do research for homework. We had this really cool old church at the top of the hill down the road from my house that served as the local library. It had the old parish cemetery right on the grounds, and was even said to be haunted...

Even at as early as 8-9 years old, I could be most found in either the occult section or the horror section of books at that library. It was around that time that I heard of Stephen King. It was the mid-80s and King was arguably at the height of his popularity, so his name was everywhere…so were his books. And how beautiful they looked...

What I did mostly was just simply gaze at them. I’d arrange them on my floor and stare at the covers like they were Picassos or Van Goghs. I was so entranced by them and the type of imagery they evoked in my mind (Did Cujo really look like that? Was Christine that bad ass of a car?) that they told me the story themselves. It was the idea of thebooks, and what they had waiting inside, that captured me. And it all came from the eye-catching covers that I couldn’t ignore.

First Look at the Blu-ray and DVD Artwork for Black Swan

The Golden Globe winning Oscar nominated sensation,Black Swanis officially on its way to both Blu-ray and DVD and though information is on the scarce side of the fence, we already have a look at the artwork for you!

Official Synopsis:
Set in the world of New York City ballet, BLACK SWAN stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured dancer who finds herself locked in a web of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the company (Mila Kunis). A Fox Searchlight Pictures release by visionary director Darren Aronofsky (THE WRESTLER), BLACK SWAN takes a thrilling and at times terrifying journey through the psyche of a young ballerina whose starring role as the duplicitous swan queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect. The script was written by Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin.

BLACK SWAN follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother, Erica (Barbara Hershey), who zealously supports her daughter's professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly, but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

A Seventh Season of Supernatural Looks Likely

"Supernatural"Season Six got off to a bit of a rocky start, but indications are that, assuming new showrunner Sera Gamble is game, The CW is likely to renew the series for at least one more year.

SupernaturalAccording to a chat CW president Dawn Ostroff recently had withE! Online, she is boldly optimistic about bringing SPN back for a seventh season. Ostroff told E!,"We haven't officially picked anything up yet, but {Supernatural} is creatively doing so well— and it's doing better on Friday night than it was on Thursday night — so I can't imagine we won't pick it up."

The network boss praised Gamble, noting,"Sera's done a fantastic job this year. She's done an excellent job creatively. Our network team works with the Supernatural team very closely,"says Ostroff, but the two sides have not yet engaged in any talks about a season-seven myth arc."No, it's too far out. We haven't started talking about next year, but I'd be shocked if we didn't pick it up."

The Walking Dead Season 2 as Early as July?

We, just like every other fan out there, simply cannot stand the news that we may have to wait until next October to dig our claws into Season Two of the hit AMC original series,"The Walking Dead". Talk about a long time. However ...

A glimmer of hope may have appeared in a really unlikely place. During aNew York Magazineinterview with Bryan Cranston, star of the equally as incredible AMC show,"Breaking Bad", Cranston was asked why he thought the season premiere of his show was pushed to July. His answer came in on the surprising side of the fence.

"It was a decision from AMC that they wanted to position us in July, along with Mad Men. And I believe they're going to put Walking Dead in July as well. I think it's just a sensible thing— they want to attract as many eyeballs as possible, away from the heavy competition of the September, November, January start."

Could be something. Could be nothing. At least it offers us eager flesh-eaters a glimmer of hope. Stay tuned.

Look for Season One of"The Walking Dead"to hit Blu-ray and DVD on March 8th. Pre-order your copy below!

According toTheme Park Adventurewhile touring Universal Studios Hollywood the folks who run the site ran across the clapboard sign you see below which clearly states thatJurassic Park IVis in production on four of the studio's stages.

Could it be that named director Joe Johnston could have already started building sets while tidying up work onCaptain America? Or is this just the work of some chalk happy prankster looking to stir the pot? We expect some form of official confirmation to come sooner rather than later and as soon as we get it, we'll relay the info to you.

In the interim take all this with a grain of salt. Hit up the above link for a couple of more images.

Rest in Peace Juan Piquer Simón

Rest in Peace Juan Piquer SimónAnother genre personality has passed away this weekend, and though you may not be familiar with his name, you very well should be with at least a couple of his films.

According toEl CorreoJuan Piquer Simón, director ofThe Pod People, Mystery on Monster Island, Slugs, and of course the ever-so-infamous low-budget slasher classicPieces, has passed on at the age of 74 after a long battle with lung cancer.

A while ago during an interview overseas, Simón was quoted as saying,"I know I've worked in a manner and with a genre that critics do not appreciate much."We can only hope that he knew how much we the fans appreciated him.

At this time we here at Dread Central would like to honor the man and his work and extend our sincerest condolences to Simón's friends, family, and constituents. Thanks for the screams and chills, my friend. You will be missed.

First Images: Antonio Banderas - The Skin I Live In

Ah, the horrors of plastic surgery! Such big inflated lips! Such tightly pulled faces! Some people make deformities look better and better, I tell ya! In any event the first stills from Pedro Almodovar's next film,La Piel que Habito(literally translated asThe Skin I Live In), have arrived, giving us the first look at star Antonio Banderas.

"The film will be a terror film, without screams or scares,"Almodovar told the Spanish daily El Pais."It's difficult to define, and although it comes close to the terror genre -- something that appeals to me that I've never done -- I won't respect any of its rules. It's the harshest film I've ever written, and Banderas' character is brutal."

The Skin I Live Intells of a plastic surgeon's revenge on the man who raped his daughter and is based on Thierry Jonquet's novelTarantula.

D.B Sweeney ("The Event",Eight Men Out) co-stars.

Now a whole lot of info about this low budget nature gone amok movie out there at this time. We do have a trailer and a funny tagline:"You were safer in the water."

Super 8 Used to Film Brazilian Darlings

Sometimes the studios will film things under alternate titles as a means to throw off the public and journalists alike. This practice has been going on for decades. Sometimes though ... temp titles end up sticking.

Paramount used the nameDarlingsto keep prying eyes at bay while filming of JJ Abrams'Super 8was taking place, and while it's coming out here under the more appropriate sounding moniker,Paramount Brazilis still teasing the flick asDarlings(see image below). No word on whether or not this will stick, but we'll keep our eyes open.

Look for the film starring Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, and AJ Michalka to be in theatres on June 10, 2011.

Super 8tells the story of a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera that notice upon viewing their footage that they've captured what appears to be an alien on film.

Trailer Sneak Peek: John Carpenter's The Ward

Okay so 2011 is off to a pretty weird start. Birds are falling out of the sky, fish are dying en masse, and now we have your first look at the trailer for John Carpenter'sThe Ward. Well, sort of. We actually have half of the trailer. That's right -- half the trailer.

Trailer Sneak Peek: John Carpenter's The WardWhile no US release date has been officially announced yet, our friends in the UK will be seeing the flick in cinemas on January 21st, 2011. Below you'll find half of the UK theatrical trailer, which just popped up online, that happens to be home to a lot of never-before-seen footage. Look for the other half, or the completed trailer we're sure very soon.

Lyndsy Fonseca, Amber Heard, Danielle Panabaker, and Jared Harris star.

    Synopsis
The Ward is an intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen, is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she could have imagined.

Kristen, who is in her early 20's, wakes to find herself bruised, cut, drugged, and held against her will in a remote ward of Chamberlain Psychiatric Hospital. She is completely disoriented with no idea why she was brought to this place and no memory of her life.

The other patients in the ward, four equally troubled girls, offer no answers, and Kristen quickly realizes things are not as they seem. The air is heavy with secrets, and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears strange and disturbing sounds. It appears they are not alone.

One by one the girls disappear, and Kristen must find a way out of this hellish place before the ghost comes for her, too. As she struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined.

Producer Denies Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel

Just yesterday we brought you the first chatter about a proposed sequel to the much belovedThe Nightmare Before Christmas. Today further clarification has come about whether or not this will actually be happening.

The news first hit our desks thanks to an interview with Paul"Pee-wee Herman"Reubens, who, while doing press for his stage show, let one of our East Coast contacts know that to his knowledge Tim Burton was looking to do a sequel to the spooky animated holiday treat.

Today, Derek Frey, producer and executive at Tim Burton Productions, has toldThe Playlistthere is“no truth to the rumor” and expressed gratitude for squashing it quickly.

    Maybe someone should tell Pee-wee?

In any event, we're not ready to completely write this one off just yet since as you well know, things are always reported and then denied and then re-reported sometimes as early as the next week as a confirmed fact. We'll be keeping our eyes and ears open, and if there are any further developments, we'll let you know.
