One of the most prolific horror film producer's in the game has taken his final curtain call and is sadly no longer with us. You may not know his name, but we know you're very familiar with his work.
According toThe New York Timeslong time Herschell Gordon Lewis collaborator and splatter film pioneer, producer David F. Friedman passed away at age 87 on Monday at his home in Anniston, Alabama.
The man's resume is as long as it is impressive with titles likeBlood Feast, Color Me Blood Red, Two Thousand Maniacs, Ilsa: She-Wolf of the S.S.,and most recently Tim Sullivans'2001 Maniacsand2001 Maniacs: Field of Screamsthe man was from the old school of fearless filmmaking and lived his life to the fullest until the very end.
At this time, we here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest of condolences to Friedman's friends, family, and constituents. The genre is a delightfully bloodier place thanks to you Mr. Friedman. Thanks for the decades and decades of entertainment!
